Excerpt one:
I marched back into the living room and toward the box
before striking the match and tossing it in. I watched the red sequins melt as
the fire picked up and began to roar.
I had just ended that dress’s life and in doing so ended the
manipulative events that followed, right there on the living room
floor. “Megan, are you burning—” Emilian’s eyes widened as he rounded the
corner from the hallway. In a blur, he was out the doorway and back from some other
part of the house with a fire extinguisher in hand.
Excerpt two:
I didn’t understand why I was in his arms, but I loved that
he was there. I cuddled in closer to his chest and wrapped my arms around him,
savoring the moment. I inhaled his cologne, and my skin felt like it was on
fire.
His cold contrast to my hot flesh felt good in so many ways.
I wanted this and now I had it. He tucked a piece of wild hair behind my ear
and said, “Don’t cry. I’m here, always.”
I knew somehow that he would be. Maybe I should listen to
Morgan and stop fighting it.
I opened my eyes and his met mine.
Excerpt three:
I turned to see a brown-haired woman dressed in a navy blue
pantsuit with files and notepads covering her face.
“Ursula.” Emilian was on his feet and at the door in a
flash, taking the files from her arms. I looked at the interaction between
them, which seemed almost intimate. He took the files, placing them down.
Helped her with her jacket and purse. All while she looked at him with loving
adoration.
With a raised eyebrow, I gave her a once-over. She was about
my height, but she was thinner and paler. Her dark brown locks fell into curls
past her shoulder, and the perfume she wore was intoxicating as it took over
the room.
She stepped forward with Emilian’s hand wrapped around her
shoulders.
“Megan, let me introduce you to Ursula. She is my progeny
and assistant.” The perky brunette stepped forward, and I stood up. “She is
here to help with anything you may need,” he finished.
