From master of suspense Lisa Unger comes a riveting thriller about a chance encounter that unravels a stunning web of lies.Selena Murphy is commuting home on the train when she strikes up a conversation with a beautiful stranger in the next seat. The woman introduces herself as Martha and soon confesses that she’s been stuck in an affair with her boss. Selena, in turn, confesses that she suspects her husband is sleeping with the nanny. When the train arrives at Selena’s station, the two women part ways, presumably never to meet again.
Then the nanny disappears.
As Selena is pulled into the mystery of what happened, and as the fractures in her marriage grow deeper, she begins to wonder, who was Martha really? But she is hardly prepared for what she’ll discover…
My Review:
5 Stars
Lisa Unger is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. She definitely knows how to weave a story that keeps you on your toes. Just when I thought I had everything figured out there was another wrench thrown into the machine. Greatly enjoyed the story and the characters that this author created.
Selena is really too trusting of a person for this day and age. There were lots of things she did throughout the story that made me cringe. Giving out personal information to strangers is never a good idea, but when you are at your breaking point it's an even worse idea. What ensues is the complete destruction of many lives connected unknowingly to one central source.
Selena tries so hard to keep up appearances while everything is unraveling. Keeping up the pretense of the perfect life and perfect family. When the day comes that she can no longer do that she must embrace her inner strength to get through all of the obstacles that now lie in her way.
This was one wild ride. Twisting and turning until I honestly was trying to figure out who didn't have secrets or something more sinister to hide. Most definitely kept my on my toes and not wanting to put it down until I was finished. Can't wait to read what's next from this author.
