After just finishing it I asked my why the hell did I wait so long. I absolutely loved everything about this book. The storyline, the characters and it was concluded perfectly.

It seems that everyone is obsessed with serial killers. There are multiple documentaries, docuseries and movies on the subject. While Scarlett imbibed in the phenomenon, she never imagined that she would suddenly become apart of it.

Her mother's helicopter parenting and police like vigilance are now starting to finally make sense. Due to living that type of lifestyle, Scarlett is not prepared for the onslaught of attention being the daughter of a serial killer brings. She's not prepared to be blamed for horrific acts that were never her fault.

A gripping coming of age, love and doing the right thing story. I would highly recommend you take the time to read this book. I'm very sorry it took me this long.
Crazy Beautiful Reviewshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01783286008108825003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-769735630309487728.post-90498591240635592302022-11-27T05:26:00.000-08:002022-11-27T05:26:01.000-08:00Review of Secluded Cabin Sleeps Six by Lisa Unger
I received a copy of this title via NetGalley. They carry a heavy price and do nothing but cause trouble. Especially since it takes lies to keep the secrets in place. Lies that will ultimately effect everyone close the the involved party.

Sometimes though it's thought that keeping the secret is better than telling the truth. In that instance a way of life is preserved and someone of lesser meaning takes the fall or simply there is no answer at all. Leaving things needing a closure that won't come unless the truth is revealed.
Crazy Beautiful Reviewshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01783286008108825003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-769735630309487728.post-45678888019212928122022-03-30T00:00:00.001-07:002022-03-30T00:00:00.203-07:00Review of Starry Night: Van Gogh at the Asylum by Martin Bailey
I received a copy of this title via NetGalley. Orphaned at age seven after a horrific killing spree at her family's Oregon cabin, Kara McIntyre is still searching for some kind of normal. But now, twenty years later, the past has come thundering back. Her brother, Jonas, who was convicted of the murders has unexpectedly been released from prison. The press is in a frenzy again. And suddenly, Kara is receiving cryptic messages from her big sister, Marlie--who hasn't been seen or heard from since that deadly Christmas Eve when she hid little Kara in a closet with a haunting, life-saving command: Don't make a sound.
As people close to her start to die horrible deaths, Kara, who is slowly and surely unraveling, believes she is the killer's ultimate target.

Kara survived once. Kara unfortunately did not get the good side of that coin. Being known as the one who survived is a constant reminder of the past. A reminder of what was lost.

Once strange communications are received and those she loves start to die, Kara has to figure out who is targeting her and why. She also has to hope that she can survive one more time.

A thrilling book that had me racing to see what would happen next. I would highly recommend this book and this author.
Crazy Beautiful Reviewshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01783286008108825003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-769735630309487728.post-10504370232674424102022-03-28T21:00:00.001-07:002022-03-28T21:00:00.244-07:00Review of The Crock-Pot Ladies Big Book of Slow Cooker Dinners
I received a copy of this title via NetGalley. I have to have really not enjoyed something to give it that rating or lower. That was not the case with this book though.

Lou has a terrible accident. An accident that she can't really remember, but does recall small new details daily. This accident has left her confined to her house when she's usually has a very active life style. At the suggestion of her sister she hires someone to come and give her home a lift. That's when she meets Ed.

Ed and Lou both harbor their own potentially damaging secrets. Each carries a burden of something they feel is inexcusably their fault. Each one has lived their life repenting since and will continue to do so unless they are able to forgive themselves. Will the budding romance between them be enough to dispel the weight of these secrets? You will have to read and see.

I absolutely loved the story this book contained. I would recommend it if asked, but I am so confused and a little angry about the ending that it did change what I would rate it. I was left with a million questions not to mention the fact that I still have no idea what happened. It really needed at least one more chapter explaining how the ending came to fruition. Other than that I really enjoyed this book.

Crazy Beautiful Reviewshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01783286008108825003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-769735630309487728.post-15752886509492168172022-03-02T00:00:00.001-08:002022-03-02T00:00:00.220-08:00Review of Just Like the Other Girls by Claire Douglas
This book was a random pick up when I was at Walmart with my husband. It means I haven't been able to figure out everything about half way though and just continue on to see if I am correct or not. Usually my guessing is pretty solid, but I couldn't have been more off in this book.

Elspeth is one cold and calculating lady. Honestly she reminds me of my mother in the way that she interacts with her daughter. Kathryn wants nothing more than just a show of love from her mother. She's endured so much at the hands of Elspeth and just wants what she feels she is due.

The only problem are the companions that her mother insists on employing. The most recent one not being like the others. Not only does Una seem to be bonding well with Elspeth, but she's also starting to ask a lot of questions. Questions that someone doesn't want her to find the answers to.

A twisting and turning story that had me on the edge of my seat. I was very surprised at the ending and how everything became unraveled and revealed. The author did a fantastic job.

PS: My little girl Ms. Betty also enjoyed this book

Crazy Beautiful Reviewshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01783286008108825003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-769735630309487728.post-90484261875821264552022-03-01T00:00:00.001-08:002022-03-01T00:00:00.235-08:00Review of The Wolves Descend (The Grey Wolves Series Book 15) by Quinn Loftis
I have loved this series ever since I picked up book one. Not only are the characters ingrained into my soul, but the series just keeps on evolving and getting better along each and every turn. I am so excited to see where these characters go and to see their story come to life with each turn of the page.

The fight for dominance begins.

The period of mourning for the great alphas, Vasile and Alina, is over. But some refuse to move on. The high fae, Perizada, vows never to experience the loss of her friends--her family--again. She knows the only way to do this is to take on the Order of the Burning Claw herself. But her mate would never allow it. So, she does the only thing she can, severing all ties with her allies. Rogue wolves who desire to rule in his stead attempt to stake their claims. Though Fane abides by pack law when facing his opponents, others aren’t so honorable. Fane soon realizes the threats he faces aren’t just against him, but against his entire pack.

Skender and the fae, Tenia, fight against the mate bond drawing them closer. They both know they cannot be together, but the bond is more powerful than either expected. Meanwhile, Skender has promised to keep Tenia’s son, Torion, safe--a promise he’s willing to die to keep. Skender soon finds out that there’s more to the boy than meets the eye, and Skender’s ability to keep the boy safe could be the key to saving them all.

My Review:

5 Stars

This book continues to break your heart. It's sad, but its true. Our poor pack has been through so much already, but it seems that no break is in sight. Through Alpha challenges and trying to figure out what is wrong with one of their closest friends and allies, our favorite pack members navigate with the strength, grace and Jenness that we have all come to love.

While there is a great deal of heartache there is also light and times of rejoice throughout the book. Being thankful for the times had and the times that are to come. Honoring their creator no matter the hardships and sacrifices that are thrown their way. And loving without restraint, complaint or selfishness.

An emotionally charged journey that will have you bracing for what is yet to come.

PS: My absolute favorite part of the book is the epilogue. After reading some of the heavier pieces it was a nice and refreshing point to pause at.
Crazy Beautiful Reviewshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01783286008108825003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-769735630309487728.post-61537241382841405062022-02-28T00:00:00.001-08:002022-02-28T00:00:00.233-08:00Review of The School for Good Mothers by Jessamine Chan
I received a copy of this title via NetGalley. Only with their angelic daughter Harriet does Frida finally feel she’s attained the perfection expected of her. Harriet may be all she has, but she’s just enough.

Until Frida has a horrible day.

The state has its eyes on mothers like Frida — ones who check their phones while their kids are on the playground; who let their children walk home alone; in other words, mothers who only have one lapse of judgement. Now, a host of government officials will determine if Frida is a candidate for a Big Brother-like institution that measures the success or failure of a mother’s devotion. Faced with the possibility of losing Harriet, Frida must prove that she can live up to the standards set for mothers — that she can learn to be good.

This propulsive, witty page-turner explores the perils of “perfect” upper-middle-class parenting, the violence enacted upon women by the state and each other, and the boundless love a mother has for her daughter.

My Review:

4 Stars

This was a very intriguing story. It really makes you think about what would happen if this was implemented in today's society. Although I really wonder if it's focus is in the right direction.

Frida has what she calls "a horrible day". A day that makes the reality she knows disappear and is then thrust into something she never could have imagined. A day that will keep being the focal point of her past, present and future.

Throughout the story all of the mothers, including Frida, are tested in ways that are normal challenges of raising a child. However they are evaluated in some very different and at times disturbing ways. After seeing the entire concept I do believe something like this, although not this exact program because I really do question the motives behind the people running it at times, could be something that would be very beneficial to some of the struggling mothers out there.

The author has done an extraordinary job of challenging ones thoughts and feeling on such a tough subject.
Crazy Beautiful Reviewshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01783286008108825003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-769735630309487728.post-24295583408474910452022-02-27T06:22:00.000-08:002022-02-27T06:22:24.150-08:00Review of The New Neighbor by Karen Cleveland
I received a copy of this title via NetGalley. Beth is the only one who seems to notice and she makes it her mission to find out what's really going on around "her" cul-de-sac.

A thought provoking and mind engaging story that will have you trying to figure out the truth right up until the end.

Crazy Beautiful Reviewshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01783286008108825003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-769735630309487728.post-6241698397510966232022-01-23T06:01:00.000-08:002022-01-23T06:01:03.734-08:00I Lost My Hero
Tuesday January 18, 2022 will forever be ingrained in my head. Early that morning I lost my first love, my hero...my Dad.

My Dad was everything to me. Growing up he was the only parent that I connected with. The only parent to show compassion and love without limits. The only parent to be at every sporting event no matter how far away it was.

When I was younger he would always have the .05 or .10 candy from Stewarts in his pocket picking me up from daycare. I was always excited to see if I was getting a Reese's cup or a Peppermint Patty, but even more excited that my dad was home from work.

Throughout my school years he always pushed for participation in sports. I tried my best, but sadly was not the athlete that he was in school. While I played softball and basketball for awhile, I fell into cheerleading for most of my high school career. That never deterred my father though. It didn't matter that I was just cheering on our football team...he was still at every single game. That held true when I had my own child as well. Gramp was at every single game that he could make it to and I couldn't be more grateful for that.

Now today January 23, 2022 I have to say goodbye to the man that taught me how to fish. That taught me to stand strong and be tough. The man that looked at himself in the mirror every morning and said "Fuck It".

I don't know how to do this. How am I supposed to say goodbye to my Daddy? How am I supposed to get through the rest of my life without him there? How am I supposed to smile and carry on like nothing is wrong?

My life will be forever altered. The fishing season will never again be the same and looking for deer will be more meaningful now than it ever was before.

I love you so very much Daddy. I wasn't ready for you to be gone this soon and I don't think it will feel real for a very long time. Forever will I cherish the memories that we've made. You were the most amazing father a girl could ever hope for. Thank you for being mine.

Crazy Beautiful Reviewshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01783286008108825003noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-769735630309487728.post-76049620530311301002022-01-19T00:00:00.001-08:002022-01-19T00:00:00.226-08:00Review of Last Girl Standing by Lisa Jackson and Nancy Bush
I received a copy of this title via NetGalley. That was fifteen years and a whole lifetime ago. Even then, backstabbing and betrayal erupted among the women in the group, a trio of which are now gathered around a hospital bed. And most of it revolved around the man lying close to death before them . . .

Until the day . . .
To Delta, it feels as if a nightmare unfolds every time they get together. It started at their senior year graduation party when a group of daredevils led by Tanner slipped under the safety rope and tumbled into the dangerous, fast-flowing river. One of their clique died following his lead. It all seemed spontaneous at the time. A thoughtless deed. But since then, there have been more deaths, more "accidents." And the question hovers, unspoken: who's next?

They die . . .
As the body count rises, Detective Chris McCrae, one of Delta's classmates and a long ago friend of Tanner's, realizes that stopping the terror means digging deep into the past. Hidden beneath the conflicting stories, gossip, and scandalous half-truths are secrets that someone will kill again and again to protect--until there is no one left to tell . . .

My Review:

5 Stars

Both authors are amazing in their own rights. I enjoy reading books by both. When they write together is a completely different experience. Having the best of both worlds if only for a short while.

High school sucks. There are some who are charmed enough to get through unscathed, but for the vast majority everyone leaves with at least one skeleton in their closet. Something that they are ashamed of or are afraid will some day be discovered. For one group of elite girls their secret comes at a steep price. A price that could end up costing them their lives.

A fast paced race to the finish, Last Girl Standing will have you up reading until the wee hours. So make sure you have coffee at the ready.
Crazy Beautiful Reviewshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01783286008108825003noreply@blogger.com0
